James Mwangi the coordinator of Muungano Trust-Nakuru region said members of public have right to access information about public land and property.

“This will help them to evaluate governance and utility of public property,” said Mwangi.

He observed that one of the functions of the county government’s ministry of lands and housing was to formulate a comprehensive land and property information system.

“For now our county Government has not shown efforts to give the public an opportunity to monitor, scrutinize and evaluate how public land and property in the county is managed,” notes Mwangi.

Mwangi revealed that his group is in a process of writing a petition letter to the county assembly speaker, and the governor through the lands and housing ministry concerning the need for an information policy on public land and property.

“We are petitioning either the county’s Ministry of Lands and Housing or the county assembly to come up with an information policy on public land and property,” said Mwangi.

According to Mwangi the policy will help to reduce corruption and massive land grabbing of public land and other property.

Mwangi was speaking after presiding over community lands and settlement education forum at Egerton Centre in Njoro on Wednesday.
