A youth lobby group in Nakuru County has urged youth in the country to rejects the ongoing calls for a referendum to make changes in the constitution.
Instead, the Nakuru County Youth Forum calls for support to the government to deliver on its pledges.
Through its chairman Peter Cheruiyot, the youth group urged the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders to use constitutional frameworks as they stress the government to address challenges affecting the national government and counties.
He lashed out at the opposition leaders, urging them to first address their parties’ internal wrangles before calling on Kenyans to append signatures for a referendum.
Cheruiyot urged leaders calling for a referendum to emulate TNA governors who he said shelved their interest for the sake of country. He said the proposed referendum is not a requirement for additional county funds, saying those behind the push were insincere to Kenyans.
“We need to see patriotic leaders who are good examples to Kenyans. We do not want leaders urging wananchi to leave what they do to earn an honest living and participate in street protest as witnessed in the past,” he said.
