Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday during the launch of a report Documentary on the  County Budget Forums 2015/2016  in Nakuru County, Masese Kemunche from the Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance said a lot has to be done to ensure public participation.

"I know the civil society groups are trying to educate the public on governance issues but I must admit that a lot has to be done in ensuring that the common mwananchi participates in crucial issues such as the budgeting processing," he said.

He appealed to the county government of Nakuru as well as other counties, to ensure that the public gets crucial information on governance, citing it as a challenge in governance.

According to him, most counties don't involve the public in forums of decision making something he says is against the constitution.

"My appeal to the government is that let the public access the information which will help in decision making and foster development in counties and nation at large," he added.

The CEDGG's programme coordinator also proposed that the civic forums should be held up to the village level to ensure each and every Kenyan gets information on public participation and the budgeting process especially at the county level.

The report was launched courtesy of the Kenya Dialogues Project and Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA).

The overall objective of the launch is to demonstrate the value of county government partnerships with the civil society in promoting national values and principles of governance with specific focus on public participation.
