A youth lobby has urged ministries, parastatals and counties to give tenders to youths.
Mount Kenya Youth Caucus led by their chairman Linford Mutembei said more tenders should be given to youths to help youth improve their lifestyles to end crime.
Mutembei said most youths have engaged in crime and if given tenders, the issue of being unemployed will be solved.
“Government agencies such as Kenya Rural Roads Authority and Kenya Urban Roads Authorities and Counties have huge budgets and should award project tenders to youth groups, not small tenders and manual jobs,” he said.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive of giving tenders to youths should be honoured.
“President Kenyatta issued the directive because he is passionate about the youth that is why United Nations chose him to champion for youths empowerment. Government institutions should help President in implementing the directive by giving more tenders to youths,” he added.
He said state agencies which fail to implement the directive a legal action will be taken against them.
Mutembei was speaking in Kiambu on Thursday.
