Investors in Nakuru have been urged to consider investing in the local fast growing motorcycle sub sector of the transport industry by opening centres of learning for motorcycle operators. The organizing secretary of the Kenya National Motorcycle Operators Association-Nakuru branch, Timothy Kungu said many accidents were being caused because of poor training facilities for motorcycle operators. He was addresing the press on Tuesday morning at a road accident scene involving a motorcycle taxi in Nakuru town. Kungu argued that the sub-sector should be developed through government policies that encourage investors in training of motorcycle riding, road safety and mechanics. The bodaboda official observed that so far there are no formal training centres for motorbike operators in any part of the country including Nakuru. He said many bodaboda riders receive informal training a fact that contributes to accidents. “The high rate of accidents and crime involving boda boda riders can be reduced if investors come up with formal training centres and this is not exactly the work of the government", He said. The secretary blasted investors who only invest in selling new bikes and spare parts but have never considered training those who buy them. He added that the government through the Ministry of Transport had come up with regulations guiding the operations of bodaboda taxis in the country which trainers ought to adopt to produce competent and disciplined riders.
