The duo was speaking yesterday at Ngei Estate in Nakuru West during a meeting with the tenants where they vowed to oppose the sale of the estate because it would put the lives of the tenants at risk.

"The tenants have lived in Ngei estate for more than two decades and it’s against their wish to sell their houses to private individuals,” said Ngunjiri.

Arama said that it is unfair to evict the tenants and vowed to protect their interests.

"The interest of the tenants must be respected within the constitution framework," he said.

He however said he would hold talks with the trustee of the estate, the Local Authority Pension Trusts (Laptrust) that manages the estate.

"I will hold further consultations with Laptrust to find a solution facing the running of the estate and prevent tenants from being evicted," said Arama.

Ngei Estate has been managed by Laptrust since 2010 when the defunct Nakuru Municipal Council failed to pay money to its pension scheme.

Laptrust intends to sell more than 100 houses to a private developer.
