Football fans in the country looking forward to the 2018 edition of the FIFA World Cup in Russia next month have every reason to smile.
This is after it was revealed that a local TV station will be airing live World Cup matches.
NTV will air the matches, after the Company that owns the station (Nation Media Group) on Thursday signed an agreement with Kwese Free Sports to broadcast matches of the world’s biggest soccer event.
"This is an exciting partnership between two ambitious media houses. I am certain after the tournament we will be counting the money and audiences," Kwese Sports General Manager Monica Ndung'u said.
“We are delighted to provide our viewers in Kenya with the opportunity to watch the greatest sports show on earth - the FIFA World Cup - at the comfort of our homes," said Stephen Gitagama, who is Nation Media Group’s acting CEO.
NTV and Kwese will air all matches involving the five African teams in the competition, two quarterfinal-matches, semi-final matches and the final.
African teams to feature in the World Cup this year are: Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco. The month-long tournament will be staged in Russia from June 14 to July 15.
32 Countries nations will be competing at the showpiece, among them five-times-Champions Brazil, defending Champions Germany, EURO Champions Portugal, France, Argentina and England.
Some of the world's star footballers will be in action in Russia.
They include Portugal Captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentina Captain Lionel Andres Messi, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and England’s Harry Kane.
