Speaking at Maili Sita business centre on Saturday,  the company’s manager in charge of Environment Gabriel Wetangula challenged area youths to be innovative and undertake development proposals.

Wetangula said that the company was dedicated towards elevating the lives of the local community through its community outreach and corporate responsibility initiatives.

He observed that many local community members, especially the youths were complaining about the company failing to create employment opportunities for them, yet it had done a lot through efforts driven towards empowering them.

“We have done a lot and we still are doing a lot to ensure that members of the surrounding community of our company benefit wholly from the company. I encourage you to write and submit proposals for funding by the company because money has been set apart for that. So far we have not received any tangible proposals yet the money is there,” said Wetangula.

He added that the company still employs many members of the community in many capacities, but it cannot do that to all, yet there were many other ways locals could benefit from the existence of the company in the area.

Over 100,000 seedlings were distributed to members of the community for planting during this rain season in an environmental conservation programme being sponsored by the company that involves the surrounding communities.
