Kisii has started experiencing rains after weeks of the harsh sunny weather.

Speaking during the renovation of sewage pipes in Nyanchwa on Tuesday, Onkoba said harvesting rainwater is one the best ways to curb water shortage hitting the county.

He noted that use of the septic tanks, construction of dams and underground tanks were the best remedy for water storage.

"Try as much as possible to harvest every rainwater at your disposal because in future you will need this water. Rain is a free and cheapest source of water as you will pay no bills," he said.

Water harvesting has been ignored with minimal investments in this kind of water security regardless of the heavy rains experienced in the county during the rainy seasons.

Residents claimed that purchasing big tanks to store adequate water is expensive with no land to construct storage dams.

"These tanks are expensive. Affording one needs a lot of money yet there is no land to construct dams," said Silvester Osoro, a resident.

Water shortage has been one of the major challenge hitting Kisii with water vendors making profits in their water selling the business.

A twenty liters jerrican of water sells at Sh30 to Sh50.
