The locals praised the publication after the Machakos County Government responded to their complaints on the increased garbage and leaking sewerage lines in Athi River and its environs.

"It is only yesterday when Hivisasa.com covered our protests on the pathetic sanitation in Athi River and its environs. We are excited to see workers of the government unblocking the sewerage lines already," said resident Jonathan Musembi.

"We are happy with Hivisasa.com, they highlight issues affecting us. The issues are now being solved," Ann Kanini said.

The residents spoke to this writer in Athi River town on Tuesday.

"We were directed to ensure the sewerage systems are unblocked and repaired not only here in Athi River but entire Mavoko Sub County," an employee of the Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company said.

The company commonly known to residents as MAVWASCO is the county government's department charged with water and sanitation services in Mavoko Sub County.

The residents commended the county government for its swift response but warned its officials against sleeping on the job.

"The relevant authorities at the county government should not wait until the residents are exposed to diseases or until Hivisasa.com raises alarm for the services to be rendered," Musembi said.
