Residents of Pioneer estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday burnt the private parts of a suspected thug after a foiled robbery attempt.
The man sustained serious injuries but managed to escape death narrowly after allegedly attacking a female Moi University student who was on her way to the institution and robbed her off items including a mobile phone and her purse.
One resident, Kipkoech Megek told a local radio station that the man was seen running away with the girl's valuable before the student raised an alarm.
Youth pursued and arrested him before being set ablaze. The unidentified man is said to have fought the fire which he successfully put out.
Unluckily, however, the fire burnt his private parts and some of the youths who cornered him were overheard saying he would never bear children again.
Eldoret town of recent has reported rising cases of insecurity especially directed at students as well prominent businessmen in arguably Kenya's fourth largest town after Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu.
Police who were on patrol on a Land Cruiser saved the man from the mob that was baying for his blood. The cops took him to hospital.
Residents in the town used the opportunity to tell the county government led by Governor Jackson Mandago to install security lights at strategic corners in the town used by thugs.
