Garissa locals have raised concerns over biting water shortage for the past one month.
The locals of Benane say since their taps went dry they have not seen water for almost a month something that has worried them.
The locals say the county government is intentionally discriminating them and blamed GAWASCO for the water shortage in the area.
Some of our neighbors have access to water while for us we have been denied the water yet we pay for it,” claims Maria Aswan a resident.
The locals claim they are forced to travel for long distances in order to gain access to clean water despite the rains.
“We have been forced to walk long distances in search of water since the availed water by water vendors is always very expensive and cannot serve all the locals,” says Hajir Ibrahim.
They are now calling upon their Governor to intervene in the water shortage in the area.
They want the government to issue them with water tanks so that they can store water for use in future.
They are also calling upon the government to sink boreholes in the area so that they do not face difficulties when their taps ran dry.
“It becomes a problem when the taps run dry and we are forced to take our animals far to drink which in most cases puts us in trouble with other communities,” Claims Admimali Abdi.
