Kikuyu town residents have decried rising cases of criminal activities in the area and want the police to urgently intervene.
The locals are complaining over alleged rise in muggings, robberies and abduction cases.
According to the locals, it has become unsafe for them to conduct their businesses even during daytime.
Speaking on Sunday, the residents appealed to the police to increase patrols.
“Crime is steadily escalating in Kikuyu town and adjacent estates and we want the police to intervene,” said James Njenga, a bodaboda operator.
Njenga cited Kikuyu town, Thogoto and Kihunguro as crime spot areas. The locals claim that the crimes are being perpetrated by a group of youths.
“Most of these crimes especially muggings are being done by young people aged between 15 and 25,” said Jennifer Mburu who claims that her M-Pesa shop was broken into two weeks ago and unknown amount of money stolen.
She says that despite having the matter reported to law enforcers nothing has been done,
According to the locals a middle-aged man was abducted by thugs who demanded money from him before being released last Sunday.
Reacting to the locals claims, area OCPD Birgen Kiptoo said that security will be beefed up.
He warned that police are in hot pursuit of criminal gangs said to be causing havoc in the area, The OCPD urged locals to volunteer information to the police that will aid in the arrest of the suspects.
“Our appeal is to locals to give us information that will help us nab these people and guarantee law and order,” he told journalists at his Kikuyu office on Sunday.
Last week newly posted Kiambu county commissioner Wilson Wanyanga warned criminal gangs said to be resurfacing within the county saying that their days are numbered,
Wanyanga said that his administration will not tolerate criminal’s gangs. He urged locals to work closely with law enforcers as they strive to guarantee law and order.
