Speaking to journalists in his office, Kinaiyo pointed out jigger infestation as a menace in local schools and many homes, adding that locals should ensure they keep their home environment clean to avoid creating breeding conditions for jiggers.

"I call upon parents of our local schools and everybody to make sure they live in clean conditions and embrace high hygiene," he said.

Kinaiyo also noted the different strides taken by his ministry in the fight against the parasites, saying they have deployed a team to check on the rate of infestation and distribute drugs for the same.

"Our ministry is involved in fighting the jigger menace. We have deployed a team to help in checking the extent of the menace and help in distributing drugs to wash the jiggers in affected areas," said Kinaiyo.

This is after an order from the Minister of Education Fred Mathiang'i to all county directors of education to conduct a survey on the number of pupils affected by the jigger menace.
