Body belonging to a 30-year-old man has been recovered in Yatta, Machakos County.
It was recovered from the banks of Thika river in Kwa Ndolo area on Wednesday.
Confirming the incident, Kwa Ndolo assistant chief Henry Masewa said the unidentified body could have been swept by the waters from a far place.
Masewa said the body was removed from the scene to mortuary by police officers.
He urged the locals to halt night journeys that may involve crossing of rivers during this rainy season.
"If you must travel, wait until morningfor your safety. Bridges are collapsing day and night and rivers are full, take charge of your safety," Masewa said.
Masewa asked the locals to avoid sending little kids to water sources to avoid accidents.
He urged them to take advantage of the heavy rains to conserve water for future use.
"The rains will be over in no time, everyone should take advantage and harvest as much water as possible for future use," Masewa added.
The heavy rains have wrecked havoc in most parts of the country including the Ukambani region where several bridges and drifts have been swept away leaving stranded travelers confused whether to continue with their journey or go back to where they have come from.
