Constituents of Nyamira County have been asked to hire experienced workers to dig wells to avoid unnecessary deaths.

Nyamira County police commander Titus Karuri said several people have died while digging wells because they don’t have skills to do the job.

“We don’t want to continue losing lives by giving jobs to inexperienced people. Residents intending to dig wells in the area should hire people with experience to do the job as required,” Karuri said.

Karuri said police have launched investigations to establish what might have caused the death of a man aged 50 who died in a well at Rateti village in Nyamira County on Saturday.

“We are investigating what caused the dead of David Nyambega who died while in a well though we suspect he might have suffocated,” he said.

The commander said the body of the deceased was taken to Nyamira County referral hospital mortuary.
