North Eastern Regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh has assured residents that security has been beefed up a head of the repeat presidential poll slated for next month.
Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Sunday, Saleh said that proper security measures have been put in place noting that there is nothing for residents to fear.
He appealed to locals to continue with their activities as they wait to vote for their preferred presidential candidate.
Saleh urged politicians allied to both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to tone down and spearhead peaceful campaigns.
He said that political temperatures are steadily rising, adding that it will be good if politicians preach peace and unity.
“We appeal to politicians to desist from making statements that could jeopardise our security as we prepare for the repeat presidential poll,” he said as quoted by the Star.
The regional coordinator said that stern action will be taken against hate mongers who he said are using social media platforms advance ethnic hatred.
He said police are working closely with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and social media experts to nail the social media hate mongers.
President Kenyatta will face off again with Raila Odinga in repeat presidential poll next month.
