Residents in Kisii county have been asked to support the police in the fight against crime by ensuring that they report any suspicious looking characters in the society.
Kisii County commissioner Godfrey Kigochi said that there is a need for residents to be in contacts with the police so as they successfully eradicate crime.
Speaking on Saturday when he visited the family of Esther Bochaberi a pastor who was abducted on the night of 11th March, Mr Kigochi said that the area residents must take the responsibility of ensuring that security is beefed up in the area.
"Crime is on the increase in Kisii and currently we are engaging locals to ensure that we end the norm by arresting key suspects," said Mr Kigochi.
Mr Kigochi warned against polarizing the fight against crime noting that residents have the responsibility to inform the police illegal activities or suspicious looking people in their localities.
“If residents and the police work together, then the cases of crime will be greatly reduced,” he said adding that security is the responsibility of everybody.
The county security chief further called upon the locals o ensure that they embrace community policing initiatives stressing that security was not the preserve of the police.
