Kisii farmers have been cautioned against buying uncertified seeds.
Anne Okenyuri from the Ministry of Agriculture Kisii county who was speaking after visiting farmers in Marani said fake seeds were in circulation in the market hence, they should take care whenever they go out to buy seeds.
“Ensure you buy certified seeds to avoid suffering the consequences of con-men who sell poor quality seeds,” said Okenyuri.
“Be very cautious and ensure you buy seeds from recognised companies such as Simlaw Company that have been proven to the selling of genuine seeds,” she added.
She said the certified seeds are proved and tested to ensure best quality production and that they are also treated against pests and diseases that may come with the seeds.
“I understand some farmers preserve their own seeds for the purpose of planting during the rainy seasons which is not bad but it may compromise on your produce,” said Okenyuri.
