The government has been asked to use the Sh5 Billion it set aside for El~Nino last year to mitigate the current floods.
Speaking on Monday, a section of Kiambu town locals said that the funds set aside by the government were not used as the much hyped El~Nino rains failed to come.
“The government should use the El~Nino funds to help the victims of the Huruma tragedy,” said Beatrice Moraa, a resident.
The locals also want the government to disburse the funds to counties to be used to repair drainage systems.
They residents said that most drainage systems in major towns are in wanting state.
“Major towns will continue to experience flooding if governments fail to put in place proper infrastructure systems,” said James Kariuki, a resident.
Major towns across the country including Nairobi have experienced heavy downpour in the last week.
The heavy rains have resulted in deaths and destruction of property in various parts of the country.
The Weatherman on Sunday said that Nairobi and other towns will continue to experience heavy rains in the coming days.
