Makina locals have called upon the county government to upgrade the interior roads in the area.
They raised their concerns saying that during heavy rains, the roads become impassable making transport hard for locals who use the roads daily. The residents claim the county government has done little in upgrading the road which during the dry season also causes a lot of problems in terms of dust in the area.
“The interior roads usually connect residents to other places but now during rains, as residents, we face hard times walking on such roads. Motorbikes do not pass on such roads since they will be stuck," said Geoffrey Katam, a resident.
They also urged the county government to reconstruct the drainage systems and maintain them to prevent floods experienced due to poor drainage that has caused from as heavy rains is ongoing.
“We have been pleading with our elected leaders to upgrade the road and maintain the drainage systems but the leaders seem to have neglected us. The roads are impassable now, muddy everywhere, with floods all over due to poor drainage," said Jared Oremo.
"The county government should learn from the ongoing rains and ensure that roads and drainage systems are well constructed and maintained.. Since we we pay taxes, we expect services from the county government or else we will no longer pay,” said Bonface Ondari.
