The county government has been urged to beef up security in Mwembe area.
The locals of Mwembe have raised this concern saying a large number of them have lost their items, especially household items, due to break-ins.
The latest case was on Sunday when a house was broken into in the presence of the neighbours and goods of unknown value were stolen.
“Security in this area is deteriorating. Our neighbour’s house was broken into and that is not the first case. We need more police patrols,” said Festus Sokoro, a businessman.
It is alleged that the thieves are working in groups to frustrate the locals. The group also have a tendency of waylaying bodaboda operators where most of the operators have been forced to surrender all the days’ earnings.
“I was stopped by a man at around 9pm posing as a customer. The moment I stopped, a group of 6 men appeared and took away all the money I had and my phone,” said James Omondi.
Asking him if he reported the incident to the police, Omondi said he did not since he does not trust the police.
“Our police will only write down your story and do nothing about it. This is not the first encounter with the police so there is no need of wasting my time,” he said.
The residents now want more patrols in the area to avoid such cases.
