According to the head of Mau conservancy Samuel Ihure, some parts of the area where piping is to be done covers forest area.

“An area where piping is supposed to be done covers 0.32 square kilometers and trees have to be felled within the area and with the moratorium in place, this area is no exception because the trees have to be felled at the same time,” Ihure said.

Last week, the government imposed a three-month logging ban in the country following a widespread outcry over the loss of forest cover to logging.

Deputy President William Ruto directed the Ministry of Environment, all environment agencies, and the relevant county departments to ensure the ban is enforced.
