A section of Kisumu residents from Lolwe Estate have lamented the increasing cases of insecurity in the area over the past weeks.
The locals say there is increasing cases of mugging and robberies with the latest case leaving a Maseno university student hospitalized.
The student was hit by a blunt object on his forehead causing an injury on his left eye.
The student was reportedly heading home after watching a football match, when he was attacked close to the main gate leaving him unconscious.
Several other people have reported attempts by alleged robbers to break into their business premises.
Counsil Achieng who runs an M-PESA shop noted that she was luckily escaped after two men tried robbing her on her way home.
“Lolwe is no longer safe. Even bodaboda operators don’t operate late night like they used to because of fear of the robbers. We close by 9:00pm for fear of our security,"a resident explained.
A security guard manning one of the estates explained that most people fall prey of the robbers since they come home late from drinking.
“Most people leaving in Lolwe are averagely rich and have a habit of drinking late night which makes them soft targets of criminals,” Samson Ojok stated.
The locals now want security to be beefed up, and every part of the Estate lit.
“We would like the county government to light up every part of the Estate and increase patrols in the area. We see police officers pass by but do not stop by. I think they assume the area is safe as it used to be some few years ago,” said one of the residents.
