Njoroge said  the cash could not be accounted for, and yet there was no visible change at the facility.

He was speaking at the county assembly on Wednesday where he demanded an explanation from the Office of the Governor and the Minister of Environment Richard Rop.

“We are demanding an explanation as to where the cash went. We also want to know what happened to the deal of converting the garbage there into renewable energy which had been reached by the county government and the government of Finland,” he added.

Njoroge pointed out that residents were often forced to rely on the trucks to collect garbage belonging to the Ministry of Public Works, who often picked them away and returned them after two days.

“Litter is found everywhere and our greatest concern is that it is now spreading up to the roads. Residents are forced to wade of the garbage and this has been a huge health hazard,” he added.

Njoroge also mentioned that most of the litter is burnt at night, releasing carbon dioxide which was harmful to residents.

“Breathing at night has been a huge challenge leading to increased cases of lung problems, including lung cancer,” he added.
