NASA leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday afternoon took oath of office as the 'President of the People's Republic of Kenya'.

The event held at Uhuru Park saw Odinga arrive at 2 pm in absence of his Deputy Kalonzo Musyoka, and co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

Odinga explained their absence to thousands of supporters saying Kalonzo would be sworn-in later.

He said "Kalonzo is not here with me and he will be sworn in later. Musalia and Wetangula are not here also but you'll be told why they're missing later. You'll be told what really happened."

Odinga read a short speech after the swearing-in and left the venue shortly after.

Earlier, Kalonzo had said the government had withdrawn the security of NASA principals prior to the controversial swearing-in at Uhuru Park grounds.

Addressing the press from his Karen home in Nairobi, Musyoka criticised the move by the government, saying NASA would not be intimidated or cowed.

“My security detail has been withdrawn. I hope sincerely that our supporters can see what we are going through. Every security detail was taken away. But this is a very important struggle and we are still consulting," said Kalonzo.
