West Pokot Senator Prof. John Lonyangapuo has slammed those criticizing leaders opposed to the appointment of Prof. Laban Ayiro as the acting Vice Chancellor for Moi University.
Speaking on Friday during the 11th graduation ceremony for Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) in Nakuru county, Lonyangapuo said that advertisement for the post of Vice Chancellor was placed in June this year and therefore it was unfair to have delayed to make the appointment up to last month.
“People are so busy criticizing North Rift leaders opposed to the appointment of Prof. Laban Ayiro as the acting Vice Chancellor for Moi University but they fail to understand the whole issue. If the process would have taken long, a new vice chancellor should have been named by August this year,” said Lonyangapuo.
The former Egerton University lecturer said that the process was delayed because someone chose to deliberately “sit on” the names of those interviewed.
Lonyangapuo pointed out that it was wrong to brand institutions of higher learning as tribal adding that appointments to such positions as management of universities should be done purely on merit.
He reiterated the need to separate politics from management of public institutions.
