West Pokot senator Prof John Lonygapuo has faulted the government for allegedly failing to ensure proper mechanisms for water conservation.
He said the government had failed to ensure adequate allocations for water, particularly in areas hardest hit by drought.
''A complete paradigm shift is needed to address water scarcity in Kenya. Building dams along every river and stream is the way to go,'' he said.
He said public funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), County Funds and National Government Funds, should have at least 10 per cent, set aside, to tap and harvest water.
'After the 8/8/17 elections, the new governments must put provision of water as agenda one,'' added the Kanu MP.
