A lorry was on Sunday stoned by angry residents in Yatta after it was ithe drivers were caught harvesting sand in the area.
This comes a time when Yatta residents have continuously opposed sand harvesting in the area warning those who are involved in the business in vain.
The residents are blaming the area OCPD Joseph Mugo for being reluctant in fighting sand harvesting which has led to drying of rivers.
Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi and Katangi ward MCA Felix Ngui addressing angry mob promised to push for the transfer of the OCPD for showing no concern of arresting those illegally harvesting sand in the area.
“I will ask the government particularly National Police Service Commission to transfer Mwala OCPD and take stern action on him because he is initiating the sale of sand in our area,” said MP Mwangangi.
The leaders have also blamed the current insecurity in the country on corruption in the police force.
Either defending himself OCPD Mugo has said that the lorries that were impounded on by residents had been emptied of the sand destroying the evidence.
“They impounded on the lorry and emptied the sand, I am confused how could take someone’s lorry to court without the evidence! What will I sue them with?” Mugo said while defending himself.
