ODM leaders from Homabay were chief beneficiaries of Raila Odinga’s Monday tour to the region with few weeks to elections.
Prior to his tour, the region has been witnessing bitter rivalry between ODM candidates and a host of Independents, with most of them being former members of the party.
And in Homabay, Odinga openly endorsed Governor Cyprian Awiti, Senator Otieno Kajwang, Women Representative Gladys Wanga and a host of MPs.
Majority of those who were endorsed are accused of rigging party primaries in their favour, a move that led to emergence of independents.
Sensing backlash by locals, Odinga however did not throw jibes to Independents compared to his previous tours to the Luo Nyanza region.
Although he spared independent candidates, Oyugi Magwanga who lost to Awiti, Jimmy Akala of Mbita are among key losers in his trip since he failed to recognize their presence in Homabay rally.
Having predominantly voted ODM in previous elections, the region could however see emergence of independents given the outcry witnessed in ODM nominations.
