The low form one reporting in most of secondary schools at the Coast has been attributed to the night travel ban by the National Transport and Safety Authority.

Mombasa County KNUT Secretary Dan Aloo said that the night travel ban has forced parents to add more budgets to their children who are supposed to join various secondary schools at the Coast.

Speaking at the KNUT office in Changamwe, Mombasa,Aloo said that some of the students travelling from as far as Kisumu were forced to spend three days on the roads to their various schools, a situation that has resulted into late reporting.

Aloo said that the night travel ban has caused travelling problems to both parents and their children.

He accused NTSA for imposing such ban without considering the plights of parents and their children who are supposed to report to various schools especially those traveling from upcountry to the Coast region.

“If you take such tough decisions without engaging all stakeholders then the outcome is suffering among us parents and our children” added Mr. Aloo

He said that most of the students have failed to report to their schools in the region since some parents had to source for more funds to budget for their accommodation and food on their way from upcountry to boarding schools at the Coast.

He called on the Interior Cabinet Secretary Doctor Fred Matiang’i and his Transport counterpart James Macharia to work with NTSA and lift the ban so that students can report to form one in time.

“We oppose to the night travel ban, it has forced us parents to dig dipper into our pockets so that we can incur the travel cost for our children” he added.

The National Transport and Safety Authority imposed a ban on night travel after increased road carnage which was experienced throughout the festive season.
