General Low turnout and failure of registration machines were the main concerns across the country during the first day of voter registration.
Most parts of the country including Western Kenya, Coast region and Nairobi recorded low registration turnout, as the exercise, which will run for a month kicked off.
In western, most centres remained empty during the morning hours, only to spring to life at around midday as locals started streaming in.
In Taita Taveta, the registration was characterized with equipment failure and other technical hitches, as locals had to wait for long hours before they could register.
The locals are now appealing to the IEBC to ensure they deliver additional registration kits, to access all areas in good time.
The residents lamented that they queued from as early as 7 am to register as voters, only to find out that the kits were faulty.
In Kilifi, the IEBC officials failed to show up in some centres, with no apparent communication as to why they could not make to conduct the exercise.
In Mombasa, leaders held rallies to sensitize locals to register as voters, saying its the only way to get rid of the Jubilee government.
Locals hope that hitches witnessed during the first day of registration will be dealt with as the days go by, to provide for a smooth registration exercise.
