Low voter turnout has been recorded in various registration centres across Kitui County as the mass voter registration exercise entered fourth day, Thursday.
A spot check established that only few people had turned up to enlist as new voters or to verify their registration status.
An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clerk who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was registering less than twenty people per day, since the exercise kicked off January 16.
“We hope the turnout will improve as the exercise gains momentum to avoid last minute rush and congestion,” she said.
Local leaders led by Senator David Musila however urged residents to take advantage of the month-long exercise and register as voters to strengthen the region’s voting muscle as the country prepares for the August 8, general election.
