Uasin Gishu Couty Assembly majority leader Josephat Lowoi has applauded National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's recommendation of scrapping sitting allowances for MPs.
Speaking on Friday Lowoi said MPs are elected to represent the people and only deserve a monthly salary, since being in parliament is their mandate.
"I really support the recommendation by of scrapping sitting allowance since it has made MPs to be lazy and only appear technically," he said.
He said their allowances on top of their monthly salaries are a burden to the tax payers.
"I urge speaker Muturi to do what it takes to ensure that the sitting allowances are scrapped since it will save this county a lot of money which can be channeled to other projects," he added.
He added that county assemblies should also follow suit and implement the same.
"We also don't deserve sitting allowances since we were elected to serve the public and that's our duty," he said.
Currently members of National Assembly earn allowances of 5,000 per session while the committee chairpersons earn 15,000 shillings per sitting.
