A tanker ferrying LPG gas has burst into flames along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
The incident took place after an accident at 2am when the tanker was involved in an accident.
Police warned the public and motorists to avoid the road as the leaking gas is burning.
"We wish to alert the public that an accident involving two trucks; one ferrying Lp gas and another ferrying a 40 ft container occurred at Chyulu Hills along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, igniting a fire from the leaking gas tank," police said.
Police added: "The leaking gas is highly flammable hence all other persons except emergency services providers are advised to stay clear of the scene."
No casualties were immediately reported.
The accident has affected movement aling the area with motorists being advised to divert to safer routes.
Motorists are advised of the following diversions: those from Nairobi heading to Mombasa should divert at Emali and take the Loitoktok-Taveta Road then head to Voi.
Those traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi to divert at Voi and take Taveta-Loitoktok-Emali Road to Nairobi.
