The Law Society of Kenya President Isaac Okero has said there are rogue elements with the Administration Police who are out to terrorise Kenyans.
Speaking to journalists at the Kisumu Law Courts, Mr Okero condemned the disappearance of lawyer Willie Kimani, an employee of International Justice Mission, who went missing together with his client and the taxi driver who all disappeared on Thursday June 23.
“The Law Society of Kenya has been receiving reports from the members of the public of the disappearance of Kenyans last seen in the hands of Administration Police,” he said, adding that LSK has been informed of two young Kenyans, Erickson Aluda Mambo and Brian Nzenze who were last seen being escorted to the Kawangware Chief’s camp on the June 1, 2016.
“These reports show there are rogue elements within the Administration Police responsible for such disappearances and who are acting to terrorise Kenyans,” he said.
He said it is unacceptable for any advocate to be subjected to threats, intimidation, fear of harm or the risk of deprivation of life while discharging one’s duty as an advocate.
“This climate of terror must end. Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwendwa and their driver Joseph Muiruri must be found,” said Okero.
He urged those responsible for the abduction of the three must be brought to justice as that is a serious threat to the profession and to the administration of justice.
“Willie’s employer believes the three may have been after attending court in Mavoko for a case involving an officer of the Administration Police,” said Okero.
Mr Kimani becomes the second lawyer to disappear after Albert Muriuki who disappeared on December 30, 2013 and has never been seen since.
All LSK members will don purple ribbons beginning Friday to show solidarity with the missing lawyer.
