The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has praised the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for fulfilling its constitutional and statutory mandate of recruiting the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice.
LSK chairman Isaac Okero commended each of the commission’s members for a job well done in also selecting the Deputy Chief Justice and judge of the Supreme Court in time.
“The Supreme Court shall now soon have among the finest jurists of our land in its composition, a matter of great excitement within the legal fraternity,” he stated as quoted by Capitalfm.co.ke.
“The JSC has fulfilled its constitutional and statutory mandate within the time frame it promised and each of its members, led by the acting chair Margaret Kobia, are commended for a job well done,” he added.
He stated that the top court is now fully reconstituted and shall be operational when the last two nominees are sworn into office.
“Once this happens it shall be time for us to reconsider our laws to ensure that never again will the country have to endure any period without a CJ in the office or without the apex court in the operation.”
However, the National Gender and Equality Commission wants the JSC to revert its decision on the appointment of Isaac Lenaola as a Supreme Court judge saying it contravened the two-third majority gender rule.
