LSK President Isaac Okerro asked NTSA to explain to Kenyans why it has been erecting illegal speed bumps on certain roads, without putting road signs, for motorists.

Okerro linked the accident to fault speed bumps, saying it could have been avoided if NTSA had put safety signs to indicate the bumps.

"Even to the ordinary road user, there must be a certain degree of engineering that goes into design and erecting of bumps on a road," he said, Tuesday.

In a statement, he further asked the Authority to come out and explain its sole mandate, and focus on other safety measures instead of focusing on speeding and drunk driving, without minimizing number of road accident deaths.

"Erecting of illegal speed bumps is just one area in which the National Transport and Safety Authority appears to have dropped the ball. There is much more than NTSA should be doing,'' said Okerro.

At least 43 people lost lives in the Saturday night accident, where a Ugandan canter carrying flammable substance hit a bump at Karai. It then lost control, ramming into 13 vehicles, causing fire.
