The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has welcomed the nomination of Justice David Maraga as the next Chief Justice.
LSK chairman Isaac Okero said that Justice Maraga had the qualities and experience to be the country’s next Chief Justice.
Speaking to journalists at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi during the launch of the Legal Awareness Week on Monday, the LSK chair stated that he has worked with Maraga on various occasions and he is good for the CJ position.
He noted that Maraga has the grasp of law and understanding that is needed for a CJ.
“As the Law Society of Kenya we welcome the nomination of Maraga as the next CJ and we know he will be approved by Parliament,” he said.
The LSK boss asked Justice Maraga to spearhead the reforms that had been started by former CJ Willy Mutunga who retired in May this year.
Justice Maraga was last week nominated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) after interviews where eleven other candidates had been interviewed for the position.
