Members of the Luhya community have been urged not to attend a meeting convened by Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli where he will unveil the community's preferred presidential flag bearer.
According to the Luhya Elders Forum Vice Chairman Burudi Nabwire, the move by Atwoli was divisive and would polarize the community.
"Atwoli has not told the community the platform he is using to undertake such a delicate assignment and who assigned him to do so," Nabwire said.
He further faulted Atwoli for vesting in himself a prerogative to decide the community's political destiny.
"Leaders are chosen by people but not one particular person," added.
The COTU boss has however maintained that the meeting slated for December 31 will go on as planned despite opposition from a number of key political players.
The elders were speaking in Bungoma Town Wednesday.
