Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has asked Western leaders to unite if they want to clinch the presidency in 2017.

He called on ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and UDP leader Cyrus Jirongo, who have declared their interest in the top seat, to agree on who among them will represent the community in next year's general election.

He said the Luhya community stands a better position to produce a president since Luhyas make up a large population of Kenya.

He said the leaders should agree to back one of them to allow voters to vote as a community rather than having many votes scattered to different leaders.

The Vihiga Senator also said the scattered votes will lead to every leader losing the polls.

Khaniri further said the Luhya community does not need to join Jubilee to be developed.

He said Luhya people, just like other regions, have a right to chose which political party to join.

His sentiments were echoed by the former speaker Kennedy Marende who said the community is united but lacks direction.

Marende asked other Luhya leaders to bury their differences and focus on the benefits of the whole community.
