Members of the Luhya community supporting Jubilee administration are traitors of the community, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said.

Speaking at a public rally at Lusheya market in Mumias East constituency, Oparanya said the community should not back President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto re-election because they have ignored the region.

“The President came here in December and promised that the Ibokholo-Shianda and Lurambi-Nambacha-Bungoma roads will be tarmacked but nothing has happened to date,” he said as quoted by the Star.

The Governor claimed Jubilee government was insincere in its efforts to revive the collapsed Mumias Sugar Company and other cane millers in the area.

“The government turned down my offer to have the 20 per cent shareholding by the government transferred to the county government,” the ODM Deputy Party Leader stated on Tuesday.

He also accused the government of refusing to remit the cess levy it collects to county governments for roads maintenance in the sugar belt.

“To make matters worse, the national government keeps collecting the Sugar Development Levy meant for purchase of road construction equipment,” Oparanya added.
