The decision by Kisumu Central MP and his Karachwonyo counterpart James Rege to attend the Jubilee 'prayer' rally at Afraha Stadium on Saturday addressed by many political bigwigs has been dismissed by the Luo Council of Elders.
The two MPs were among a host of other opposition politicians who attended the rally which now puts the loyalty of some of the Cord MPs into question.
Luo Council of elders chairman Willis Otondi dismissed Mr Rege and Mr Obura calling them traitors to the ideals and position of the Luo community at a time when political realignments are starting to shape up ahead of the 2017 polls.
"The actions of Mr Obura and Mr Rege to attend the political rally in Nakuru on Saturday is against the ideals of the Luo Council of Elders and the Luo Community in general and we see them as traitors to the community," said Mr Otondi on Tuesday.
This is coming at a time when the Cord coalition is seen to be headed for a division on who will be a flag bearer in the next poll, and the decision by the lawmakers not to obey the party rules will further complicate the jigsaw even as the coalition is dismissing the division narrative saying that the coalition will remain intact ahead of 2017.
Mr Rege and Mr Obura have long been seen as party rebels as they were warming up to form a new party, 'Kalausi', together with veteran politician Dalmas Otieno.
Other 'rebel' lawmakers from Cord who attended the Afraha rally includedGideon Mung'aro of Kilifi North, Kwale Women Rep Zainabu Chidzuga and Mustaffa Iddi of Kilifi South.
