A section of elders from the Luo community have called on the government to bar media houses from revisiting the murder of Dr. Robert Ouko.
The elders believe that Dr. Ouko’s murder coverage is likely to trigger emotions as the next general polls draw closer.
Robert Ouko, who served in both President Daniel Torotich Arap Moi and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, was assassinated on 13th March 1990.
Led by Luo Council of Elders Chairman Willis Opiyo Otondi, the elder asked National Cohesion and Integration Cohesion not to be arm twisted as nation seeks to find the truth behind the murder for the former Foreign affairs minister under unclear circumstances.
Speaking to the press on Saturday in Kisumu, the elders urged different parties including Communications Authority of Kenya to ensure that media houses do not air programmes related to the murder of Dr Ouko.
The elders argued that this is not the right moment for media houses to revisit the death of Ouko since it is likely to plunge the nation into chaos.
They also said that Kenyan communities has continued to enjoy cordial relationships with each adding that such programmes will interfere with peace in different parts of the nations as we approach August 8.
They further questioned why members of the press are more interested in the murder of Ouko yet there are several persons who have been killed in the recent past and no one has been arrested over the same.
