Luo and Nandi elders on Sunday signed a pact seeking to end cattle rustling along the Kisumu-Nandi border.
The peace meeting was convened by ODM party leader Raila Odinga who said incidents of cattle rustling had hampered development in Kibigori.
Kibigori is a centre along the border of Kisumu and Nandi where most incidents of cattle rustling happen.
In July, an incident in which Nandi youth allegedly crossed into Kisumu County and drove away cattle to Nandi sparked off fighting which claimed five lives.
Governor Jack Ranguma after the Sunday meeting said the pact will go a long way in ending recurrent incidents of insecurity along the border.
Raila on the other hand said: "I chaired a peace meeting drawing sections of elders and residents of the Nandi and Luo border area of Kibigori. I convened the meeting in search of lasting between the two neighbouring communities."
During the July clashes many residents of Kibigori fled the area as youth from the Luo and Nandi communities fought.
Humanitarian organization Red Cross Kenya had to intervene with food aid as residents camped in churches and schools in Ahero.
Among those who attended the meeting include Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo and Luo Council of Elders chairman Willis Otondi.
