Tuju who was recently appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to head Lake Basin Development Authority said the community must now desist from politicking and instead find solutions to their problems.

“I want to appeal to our professionals not to be sucked into this politics and instead chart the best way forward that can bring real change to our people. Time is now,” he said.

He said the recent boat tragedy that claimed nine lives in Lake Victoria is a wake-up call to the community to come up with innovations to revamp the sector.

Tuju said it is high time canoes that were used in the lake several years back be discarded and new technologies used to avert the numerous deaths that have been witnessed in the lake.

“Why should our people be left to continue sing canoes used by our great grandparents. We have devolution, county governments must now come up with modern boats for our people to avoid these unnecessary deaths,” he said.

Speaking during a professionals’ forum at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on Thursday, the former Rarieda constituency MP said such forums should be encouraged as a way of finding solutions.

He said problems shared are half resolved and promised to dedicate his time in such forums as a step to find lasting solutions to the problems bedeviling the community in terms of economic development.

“I vouch for these forums so that our people can come together, discuss the challenges and find solutions to them,” he said.
