Kisumu youth have joined the raging hate speech debate by condemning the utterances Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria made on Sunday.
Speaking to the press at Jomo Kenyatta Grounds in Kisumu on Monday under the umbrella Luo Council of Young Leaders, nominated MCA representing youth Lydia Odhiambo said Kuria's utterances are unfortunate as they are coming at a time when the country is heading to the general elections in few months.
"What we are seeing is an elected leader who wants Kenya to go the Rwanda way. As a youthful leader, I must tell Kenya that the youth in Kisumu will not fall into that trap," she said.
Lydia said it is unfortunate the youth are used and therefore affected the most whenever such reckless utterances become conflict.
"Calling for the assassination of the Hon Raila Amolo Odinga is a grave outburst that should not be tolerated by the youth. What is more unfortunate is that he made the statement at a public gathering," said Kevin Dosoo the Chairman of the Luo Council of Young Leaders.
He said Kuria cannot purport to be negotiating while calling for Railas' assassination at the same time.
The council Secretary Omondi Gwonyo said the leaders were sending bad signs to the youth.
"In Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugwa and Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri called for the eviction of all Members of the Luo community and other supporters of Raila Odinga from Nakuru and its environs. There is need for tolerance, not fanning ethnic animosity," he said.
"We urge President Uhuru Kenyatta to be the symbol of national unity since his silence equally sends wrong signals in this country," said Gwonyo.
