Last week's premiering of Black Panther brought the attention of the world to Kenya's third largest city, Kisumu City.
This is largely due to the fact that one of the stars of the Wakanda themed movie, Lupita Nyong'o, is a daughter of the land of Kisumu which has been termed by many of its sweethearts as Kisumu Pacho or Kisumu Dala.
Having made her name on the set of 12 Years a Slave and going on to be nominated for an Oscar award for the best supporting actress for her role, Kisumu Governor, Anyang Nyongo's daughter has brought positive publicity to Kisumu.
This serves to wipe away the negative publicity that has plagued opposition leader Raila Odinga's political home ground.
Kisumu has previously been known to be a land of chaos and inhibited by rebels who seem to oppose everything that the ruling government is for.
This description has gone on to even affect the perception of Kenyans about the people of Kisumu, with many regarding them as violent people.
The success of Lupita Nyong'o, however, is serving to cleanse the image of Kisumu City and many are predicting its success and resurrection as a business hub and showbiz central in Kenya.
