Kenyan Hollywood and Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has written a children’s book with a Luo title.Lupita, who is the daughter of Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong'o, has named her book ‘Sulwe’ which means “a star” in Luo. The book is a story about a 5-year old girl who is being raised in Kenya.According to the book, Sulwe has the darkest skin colour in her family, which makes her uncomfortable and determined to find a way to lighten her skin.Sulwe, with advice from her mother, embarks on an adventure in the night sky that helps her see beauty differently.Through her twitter handle, Lupita said the book will be published by Simon and Schuster publishers in January 2019. “I am pleased to reveal I have written a children’s book! It’s called “Sulwe”! Sulwe is a dark-skinned girl who goes on a starry-eyed adventure and awakens with a reimagined sense of beauty. Coming January 2019,” read Lupita’s tweet.Lupita was motivated by her own childhood struggles with her complexion and self-image, and her mother’s (Dorothy Nyong’o) support and constant insistence that she was beautiful.Sulwe is a motivation to dark-skinned Kenyan ladies who have considered lightening their skin, to accept themselves the way they are.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kisumu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
