In a press briefing on Thursday in Kaburengu, Lusaka told off those opposed to the two's nominations, maintaining that they are qualified for their respective jobs.

The governor further challenged critics to stop politicising the nominations, saying merit was considered before nomination.

"The two leaders qualified for the job. They were not nominated based on politics. They have the requisite academic qualifications and are people of excellent integrity," he said.

Eliud Wabukala, who also appeared before the National Assembly's Justice and Legal Committee vetting panel on Thursday defended his nomination, saying he was distinctively qualified for the position.
